The Carnet Jove Card promotes discounts to go to the cinema for half price
Carnet Jove card holders are offered 15,000 codes that they can request starting today and until the end of the year. The initiative was presented at the Sitges International Fantastic film Festival of Catalonia
The secretary of Juventud (Youth) for the Departamento de Acción Social y Ciudadanía, Eugeni Villalbí, presented the new Carnet Jove campaign at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, that will give card holders discounts of 4 Euros on cinema tickets starting today and until the end of the year. This discount, valid for 500 cinemas around Catalonia, represents a half price reduction on specific screenings. It can be applied every day of the week, including weekends.
Carnet Jove card holders interested in requesting it can do so starting today at 12 at the www.carnetjove.cat website. Once you’ve filled out the Connecta’t program registration, users will receive a code by SMS and/or e-mail that they’ll have to show at cinema box offices that are a part of the campaign in order to enjoy the discount. The code received can be used until January 15th of next year. In some regions, the system varies a bit: instead of a code to be shown at the cinema, they’ll be sent a coupon at home by traditional mail.
The Carnet Jove campaign is limited to one discount per holder and to the first 15,000 users that request it. At this second edition, the number of codes offered has been increased by 5,000 in comparison with last year, when 10,000 were given out in just 3 weeks.
The secretary of Juventud presented the new campaign accompanied by the director of SITGES 2010, Ángel Sala, the president of the Festival’s 6th Carnet Jove Jury, Anna Gual, one of the five young people that make up the Festival’s official jury. The Carnet Jove Jury’s task is to present Carnet Jove Jury Awards to the best motion picture from the Official Selection and to the best motion picture from the Midnight X-Treme Category. The Carnet Jove Jury’s initiative, now well consolidated, is an excellent professional opportunity for the five young people that have been chosen for their special talent and restlessness for the seventh art. Actually, some people from previous juries have made their way in the film world after this experience.
Discounts for online films On the other hand, the secretary Juventud also signed an agreement of permanent collaboration with Egeda (Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de Productores Audiovisuales) that will allow young Carnet Jove card holder to obtain a 25% discount on the online viewing of films at the www.filmotech.com/carnetjove website.
During the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Carnet Jove card holder will also have a 20% discount on tickets to view movies. For some screenings the ticket reduction is 50%.
All these initiatives are a part of the Secretaria de Joventuts’ commitment to promoting cinema consumption among young people. According to the study “Cultura y jóvenes” (Culture and Youths), presented recently by the Secretaria, the young audience consumes more films that the adult one. The study also detects the extension of new technologies to access cultural products.
The Carnet Jove, free for the last quarter Young people who don´t have the Carnet Jove card can benefit from the 7,000 advantages by requesting it for free during the last quarter of this year. You just need to be between 18 and 29 years old and request it at www.carnetjove.cat. People under 18 can also sign up for free during these three by months by asking for it in person at “la Caixa” branch offices and through automatic renewal.
